இலங்கை அரசின் சுகாதார அமைச்சால் நியமிக்கப்பட்ட 6 நோய்க்கிருமிகள் சம்பந்தப்பட்ட நிபுனர்கள், 3 நுண்ணுயிர் ஆய்வாளர்கள் , 1 நோயெதிர்ப்பு நிபுனரும், 1 நோய்தடுப்பு நிபுணருமாக மொத்தம் 11 புகழ்பெற்ற நிபுணத்துவம் பெற்ற குழாம் கோவிட் 19 ஆல் இறப்பவர்கள் நல்லடக்கம் அல்லது தகனம் செய்யப்படலாம் என்று பரிந்துரைத்துள்ளது.
இந்த நிபுணர் குழு 24.12.2020 அன்று சுகாதார அமைச்சின் செயலாளரால் நியமிக்கப்பட்டு 30.12.2020 அன்று அறிக்கையை சமர்ப்பித்தது. இந்த அறிக்கையின் நகல் ஊடகங்களால் வெளியிடப்பட்டிருந்தும் , இந்த அறிக்கை குறித்து அரசாங்கத்தின் முடிவு இன்னும் எட்டப்படவில்லை.
இதன் அடிப்படையில் கட்டாய தகனங்கள் குறித்து தங்களது கடமைப்பாட்டை உணர்ந்து பொறுப்புணர்ச்சியுடன் விரைவாக அதிகார பூர்வமாக மாற்றி அமைக்கப்பட்ட வர்த்தமானியை வெளியிடுமாறு நான் அரசாங்கத்தை வினயமாக கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறேன்.
ஜனாதிபதி கோதாபய ராஜபக்ஷ அவர்கள் நிபுணர்களின் விஞ்ஞான பூர்வமான ஆலோசனைகள் பெற்றே செயல்படுவதாக உறுதியளித்தீர்கள். உங்களால் நியமிக்கப்பட்ட நிபுணர் குழு அவர்களது ஆய்வுகளுடன் ஆதாரபூர்வமான சிபாரிசுகளை உத்தியோக பூர்வமாக சமர்ப்பித்திருக்கிறார்கள்.
உங்களது பணிப்பின்படி நோயெதிர்ப்பு நிபுணர்களை கொண்ட சுகாதார அமைச்சினால் நியமிக்கப்பட்ட உத்தியோக பூர்வமான நிபுணர் குழு, கோவிட்19 ஆல் இறந்தவர்களது உடல்கள் அடக்கம் அல்லது தகனம் செய்ய பரிந்துரைத்துள்ளது.
உங்களது மேலான காருண்மையான , கடமை உணர்வுடனான, மனிதாபிமான நடவடிக்கையே எங்களால் நாடப்படுகிறது.

A copy of the report of the 11-member expert committee has been published by the media where they have explicitly recommended for either burial or cremation of COVID-19 deceased.
The committee is made up of senior and reputed professionals consisting of 3 microbiologists, 6 virologists, 1 immunologist and 1 vaccinologist. They were appointed on 24.12.2020 by the Secretary, Ministry of Health and the committee submitted its expert recommendations based on its findings on 30.12.2020.
In their report, the committee states:
“While firmly standing by on the previous recommendation and guidelines on exclusive cremations of dead bodies as the most appropriate method of disposal which was based on the understanding at the time, the expert committee has revised the recommendations on disposal of bodies to include both cremation and burial, while adhering to the specified safety precautions.”
They also state that the “dignity of the dead and their families should be respected and protected as far as possible throughout the process used for the disposal of the body.”
Recommendations include that 10 minutes of time should be allocated for religious rites at the burial site/crematorium with a maximum of 4 family members and one religious dignitary present, maintaining all safety precautions and that the body should be disposed within 24 hours once the order is given.
After almost 10 months of grief and horror, these recommendations of the expert committee provide an immense sense of relief to aggrieved minorities in Sri Lanka, particularly the Muslim community who placed their fervent prayer for science to prevail.
It is my fervent hope and prayer that in keeping with the promises of the President, Prime Minister, Health Minister and Government officials to act on the recommendations of the experts, that they will officially release a gazette at the very earliest to ensure that burial is provided as an option to dispose COVID-19 deceased.
I also sincerely hope and pray that this will allow for the public to regain trust in the officials and authorities, and ensure that we can all work together productively in fighting and mitigating the spread of this virus together as one nation!
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, you promised to act on the advice of experts. They have spoken.
